Bunion Procedure Coding in CPT

Description

In this course, you'll learn about coding for bunionectomy procedures, a common surgery for a bony bump on the side of the big toe. Since there are many ways to perform this surgery, coding can be challenging. We will focus on explaining the coding for the most common methods in a clear and detailed way, using the Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding system. Please note that we will not cover coding for similar conditions on the little toe, like bunionette or tailor’s bunion, in this course.

Included Lessons:

  • What is a Bunion?
  • Anatomy of Foot
  • Types of Bunion Surgeries
  • Coding of Bunion Procedures
  • Sample of Operative Reports
  • NCCI Policy Manual
  • Coding Clinic for HCPCS References
  • CPT References
CEUs available for the following credentials:

FAQs

What makes bunion procedure coding in CPT challenging?
Bunion procedure coding in CPT is challenging due to the various ways the surgery can be performed. Each variation has its own specific coding requirements, making it essential for coders to accurately match the performed procedure with the correct CPT code.
Will this course cover coding for bunion procedures on all toes?

No, this course specifically focuses on bunionectomy procedures related to the great toe. It does not cover coding for procedures on the little toe, such as bunionette or tailor’s bunion.

Is this course suitable for coders at all experience levels?

This course is designed to make the coding process more understandable and less daunting, making it suitable for coders at various experience levels. However, a basic understanding of medical coding concepts and terminology would be beneficial.
